How Does the Threshing Work?
In canon, the Threshing works by dragon choice: cadets enter the Vale and dragons claim the riders they want. There is no application, no test score, and no appeal. In our fan-made Threshing Game, we translate that idea into game mechanics — your choices become a personality profile, and the dragon whose temperament matches that profile is the one that “chooses” you. Here is how both versions work.
The canon version: how the trial plays out
On Threshing Day at Basgiath, the cadet squad enters the Vale together. Dragons circle and land at will. When a dragon fixes on a candidate, the bonding is immediate and public — the cadet's life changes in a moment, whether they were seeking it or not. Selection criteria are never spelled out as a checklist in the books, but the pattern is clear: dragons reward courage under pressure, composure, and a will that does not break, and they are unimpressed by bravado without substance.
Our version: how the Threshing Game calculates your bond
Our system makes the dragon's “judgment” explicit. Every choice you make feeds an eight-trait personality vector:
- Courage — how you react when the safe move is the losing move
- Loyalty — whether you hold the line or hold yourself
- Strategy — patience and planning versus improvisation
- Instinct — trusting your gut in compressed timeframes
- Ambition — how much risk you accept for elevation
- Empathy — whether you factor others into tactical calls
- Curiosity — whether you investigate or keep marching
- Rebellion — how you respond to authority and rules
Each answer nudges several traits up or down. At the end of the quiz, the matching engine compares your final vector against the temperament profile of every dragon archetype and breed. The closest match is the dragon that would have clocked you across the Vale — your bond. Because the profile is rebuilt from scratch every run, changing your answers genuinely changes your dragon.
Colors and tails: the second layer
In our Vale, every dragon is a combination of a color and a tail type. Colors map to temperament families — courage-leaning reds, calculating greens, rare and defiant blacks — while tails map to combat style, from sweeping swordtails to armor-cracking clubtails. That is six colors times five tails: 30 possible breeds, each with its own stats in our stat table and its own matchups in the counter charts.
What happens after the bond
Unlike the canon trial, bonding is not the end. Your dragon can be sent into the battle simulator, where real player battles feed the live tier list and the faction war leaderboard. Your result card is shareable, and your rider archetype and signet prediction are generated alongside the bond.
